A Peek Inside the World of Forensic Interviewing Protocols
Abstract:
Beginning in the 1980’s, leaders in the field of child abuse and neglect investigation identified a need for forensically sound strategies in investigation. Thus, forensic interviewing protocols were developed based on emerging research and practice. The first protocol to be established was done by the National Child Advocacy Center followed by CornerHouse and APSAC. Today, there are many protocols widely used throughout the world. Learners will gain a better understanding of what protocols and forensic interviews are as well as differences and similarities in commonly used protocols. Practical applications for the use of all within the court system will be provided. Research will be used in presentation, specifically to address populations who may be missing this high quality of service.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the history of child abuse investigations and how that history shaped the protocols we use today
Learn similarities and differences between the protocols and how it impacts a court hearing
Identify tools for the MultiDisciplinary team to work together even when trained in varying protocols
