The size of a child's vocabulary at Kindergarten is one of the predictors of academic success. This training will provide an overview of child development from birth to five, with an emphasis on language development. Research shows wide disparities in language skills for children entering kindergarten which connects to reading by third grade, another academic indicator. Schools and teachers are understanding the need for children to develop and have strong social and emotional learning skills (SEL), language development, communication and comprehensive are imperative for this learning. Many professionals other than educators, work with children birth to 10 and increasing their knowledge of language development may enhance those interactions.
Objectives:
Identify key components of academic success including vocabulary entering Kindergarten and reading by third grade
Learn ways to support social and emotional learning for children, parents and teachers
Discover simple ways to increase vocabulary for children
Improve communication and comprehension with children
